Army vs Navy highlights

Navy converts on fourth down

Navy lining up for fourth-and-1 try

After the 2-minute warning, Navy will try a fourth-and-1 play from Army’s 41-yard line. The Black Knights are out of timeouts, meaning Navy more than likely wins with a first-down conversion here.

Army goes three-and-out

Not an ideal possession for Army, as it goes three-and-out and punts the ball to Navy with 4:50 left in the fourth quarter. The Midshipmen are a strong drive away from winning this one.

Navy takes lead on fourth down

What a play by Blake Horvath, who finds his top target in Eli Heidenreich for an 8-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal. Navy takes a 17-16 lead with 6:32 left in the fourth quarter on a must-have play that could’ve ended the game for the Black Knights.

Huge drive coming up for Army and Cale Hellums.

Navy intercepts Cale Hellums

Navy needed a stop, and Phillip Hamilton comes up with a huge interception to give the Midshipmen the ball. Navy takes over at midfield with 11:18 left in the fourth quarter looking to regain the lead.

Navy forces punt

Navy has a chance to take the lead, as it holds Army to a three-and-out before regaining possession as the third quarter ends.

Navy gets 3 points back

Nathan Kirkwood sinks a 21-yard field goal, trimming Army’s lead to 16-10 late in the third quarter. The Midshipmen are down one possession.

Have a day, Dawson Jones

Army’s Dawson Jones makes his third field goal of the day, this time nailing a 48-yard kick to give the Black Knights a 16-7 lead. Navy gets a relative win, holding Army to three points after the turnover.

Army intercepts Blake Horvath

Justin Weaver intercepts Blake Horvath, giving Army great field position on Navy’s side of the field. Horvath’s throw was behind Eli Heidenreich, and Heidenreich tips it before the ball falls into Weaver’s hands.

Navy still manages to catch a break, though, as the play was originally ruled a pick-6 before review shows Weaver’s knee touching the ground on the interception.

Navy forces punt

Navy gets a much-needed stop, taking over possession at its own 11-yard line with 13:21 remaining in the third quarter. The Midshipmen couldn’t afford to go down two possessions there, especially with how both of teams are milking the clock.

Army opens half with 29-yard gain

Army drops back to pass on the first play of the third quarter, and Cale Hellums hits Noah Short for a 29-yard gain. Army could put itself in the driver’s seat with a touchdown here.

Blake Horvath fumbles

Navy travels to Army’s 27-yard line late in the first half, before Blake Horvath fumbles and Army recovers. Horvath was trying to hold back a pass attempt, but couldn’t hold onto the ball as he tucked it.

All four of Horvath’s completions are to Eli Heidenreich, who has 56 receiving yards and 16 rushing yards so far.

Army takes 10-7 lead

Army drives 62 yards in 14 plays, ending the possession with a 20-yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead before halftime. The Black Knights picked up a fourth-down conversion on fourth-and-2 from the 11-yard line, but opted to kick on the next set of downs.

There’s only 3:44 of game clock before the break, although there have only been four combined possessions.

Navy punts

Navy goes three-and-out, opting not to go for it on fourth-and-1 from its own 34-yard line. Army takes over on its own 34 after the 32-yard punt.

Army evens the score

Army finishes its own 13-play, 75-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run by Cale Hellums to even the score at 7-7.

Army and Navy both trim over seven minutes off clock on their opening possessions. The service academies are playing the purest form of football right now.
